If a cork breaks apart as you’re pulling it, you can reinsert the worm at a 45-degree angle into the remaining cork and then carefully and slowly pull it out. If the cork is too loose, insert the waiter’s corkscrew at an angle so you have more control over it.
If there’s a wax seal over the cork, you can try sticking the worm through the wax. Estimate where the center of the cork is and insert the spiral worm through the wax. Before you make the final pull, make sure to brush off any stray wax so it doesn’t fall into the bottle.
